i am nate

and this is my junk

So, I’m about to give up on the whole Mac on Thinkpad deal. Here’s where we stand:

Leopard: I managed to get most everything working (unencrypted network, bluetooth, audio), except accelerated graphics. This is almost a dealbreaker, as I won’t be able to watch DVDs or Flash videos, and some software will refuse to run without it. And if, after almost two years of Leopard, no one has been able to get Radeon 9600 Mobility acceleration, I won’t waste my time trying.

Tiger: Accelerated graphics, but I couldn’t get the network drivers to work. This is a bigger dealbreaker than the graphics situation. Not to mention that I’d much rather have Leopard just for the newness factor.

So, I’m back to my CrunchBang install for the moment. I’m trying to decide which route to take: I can continue using Linux with full support for all my hardware, or go with Leopard and use my machine for powers of good! That is, being productive for a change and learning how to write software for MacOS.

Sigh.

I acquired one of these bad boys today. It was rather yellowed, but nothing a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser couldn’t handle.
I slapped in a 2Wire wireless card I’ve had for ages, which was detected as an AirPort and automatically connected to our home network… Awesome! Unfortunately, I need to find a stick of 512 PC133 RAM to get it up from the measly 256 already in it. I’m downloading a CD set of Tiger, as it’s currently running 10.1.5. Eek.
Once the hardware and software upgrades are complete, it’ll make a great kitchen rig for recipes and music.

Argh. The first two films in the Transporter series are guilty pleasures of mine, but this one just didn’t do it for me. The few laugh out loud moments don’t compensate for the lack of an even halfway decent plot. I can’t recommend this unless you REALLY like the first two. 2/5

Even though it was a bit like Very Bad Things, it was a pretty good horror flick. Hopefully we’ll see more from this writer/director soon. 3/5

This was an extremely hard movie to watch, but worth it. Some of the most scarily realistic acting I’ve seen.

An uninspired first half and the terrible CGI fight scene (you’ll know which one when you see it) almost took me out of it, but it really picked up in the second half. Not nearly as good as Casino Royale, though. 3/5
